Stella the Starfish

I hope you are having a great summer so far. Sandy asked me to introduce myself to you. As you know, I’m a starfish, more specifically, I’m an orange sea star. We are usually found in the warm waters of the South Pacific. The orange sea stars are real standouts. Our bright orange coloring make us highly visible in either day or night. Orange sea stars most frequently inhabit the rocky and coral reefs surrounding volcanic islands in the Pacific.
Unlike many starfish, which are carnivorous, orange sea stars feed on algae and tiny organisms known as sessile invertebrates. I was born off the Hawaiian islands many years ago. I’m one of Sandy’s oldest friends. My hobbies include sunbathing and hanging out with friends. My favorite color is orange and my favorite food is green algae stew. In the next issue of the SandScribe, you’ll learn more about Sandy’s friend, Larry the Lobster.
